There are so many great things about cannabis, one being that there is a consumption method for everyone! If you’re not a fan of smoking cannabis, edibles can be a great way to to start, especially for beginners.
When it comes to edibles, there are some things to consider before taking them. Edibles can be strong and it’s easy to take too much, but you won’t know if you’ve taken too much for a couple of hours. You may also be waiting several hours for it to wear off. To get a bit scientific, ingesting THC causes it to metabolize in your liver and turn into 11-hydroxy-THC which is more potent than THC. This gives you a much stronger psychoactive effect than other methods which is why it’s so important to start with a low dose. Edibles come in a variety of products including gummies and chocolates. With so many options out there, finding the right dose for you is the key to feeling good.
Here are 5 things you should know before consuming edibles;
Start out with a small dose
It’s always good to start out small, especially when trying cannabis for the first time. The standard starting dose is between 2.5mg to 5mg. If you don’t feel a strong effect, take a bit more after you start feeling the effect.
Wait before taking more
It usually takes about 2 full hours before you start feeling the effects of edibles. If you don’t feel it right away, don’t take more as it will hit you really hard later on.
Increase your dose in small increments, like going from 2mg to 5mg. Some people have a naturally high tolerance, so you may have to increase to a higher dosage. You may want to wait until the next day to take more, especially if it is your first time to really see how much you can tolerate, but at least wait to take more after 2 hours.
Be in a place where you’re comfortable
Taking edibles at home is the best option, especially if it’s your first time. Find a time when you know you won’t be called into work or have to be with your kids so you’ll feel at ease and relaxed. It makes all the difference to feel at ease when you try cannabis.
Being in a crowded, loud or busy setting can be overwhelming for many people when using cannabis, especially edibles. Get to know how cannabis makes you feel before taking an edible at a party or a busy place.
Know how much you’re taking
Since there are many different ways to consume edibles, it is so important to know how much you are taking. If you are taking an edible that you or someone else made, it is easy to forget how much you put in there.

Take THC with CBD
Most edibles already have CBD in them along with THC, but it is really important as it helps to reduce the side effects of THC for a more controlled experience. CBD is the best thing to take when you’ve taken too much THC as it reduces the high and the anxiety.
