Too High? Tips For Sobering Up
I’m sure a lot of us have gone a little too hard with cannabis and wound up feeling a bit out of sorts. Maybe you tried concentrates for the first time and got the spins, maybe you are a first-time user and smoked too much or maybe you thought you could handle that 1000mg edible. No matter your experience level it can happen to us all and there are some ways to help sober up or sort yourself out.
Thankfully, the effects of smoking can go away in 30 mins to a few hours. Edibles on the other hand can last much longer possibly up to 12 hours. The best way to ensure you’re not going to overdo it is to START LOW & GO SLOW until you find your effective dose. But if we all did that then there would be no need to read this article.
If you’re greening out you will most definitely know you’re too high, but if you are looking for some guidelines for when you are about to cross that line in the sand, here are some symptoms to look out for: nausea, anxiety, paranoia, panic, extra perspiration, or dizziness. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or a combination of these effects you’re probably about to overdo it and have a bad experience.
Tips to combat being too stoned:
First, take a relaxing shower or bath. Turn the temperature down and let the cool water reduce that buzz. This can feel great when you have a body buzz going!
If taking a shower or bath isn’t an option, you can try chewing a few black peppercorns. I know how it sounds but don’t knock it until you try it, just ask Neil Young. Neil was on the Howard Stern show and said, “Try black pepper balls if you get paranoid” he told Stern “Just chew two or three pieces”.
You can also take CBD. It seems counterintuitive but having tried it myself I can say “It Works” CBD interacts with different receptors in your brain and helps to reduce the feelings of being too high. CBD is also known to help people sleep and that leads us to the next one – take a nap to sleep off your high. Weed naps are the best naps! Make sure to set an alarm if you have anything important to do.
Eating is also a great way to reduce your high. Getting some munchies in your belly will help you level out a bit, so break out the pizza and chips it’s time for a munchie party! Don’t forget your water to go along with the munchies, staying hydrated will help combat that dry mouth feeling.
Finally, simply distracting yourself can be one of the best ways to cope with a bad high. You could try and catch up on the series you were watching, play some video games or throw on some headphones and your favorite album and get lost in the universal language of music.
A couple of bonus tips – slice a lemon and suck on it or try some lemon juice. The terpene, Limonene, has been studied for its anxiety-reducing effects. Finally, try taking ibuprofen. One study suggests taking a safe dose with water and some food can help you come down from your high.
