Cannabis Grow Series Part 3: Flower & Harvest When the light cycle changes and the nights get longer your plants will begin to flower. This next phase can take 7-10 weeks depending on the strain you are growing. In this post, we will go over the different flowering stages and harvesting of your plants. This is a long blog so we have broken it into 3 parts – PRE FLOWER, LATE FLOWERING & HARVEST. Pre-Flowering Week 1 The first thing you will notice is that the plant starts stretching meaning it is getting taller rapidly. Your plants are in overdrive right now trying to get as big as possible to be strong enough to support the bud sites. With your plant growing like crazy it will also need more nutrients. Now that doesn’t mean immediately switching your nutrient mix but slowly changing it over the next week or two by […]
Camping In The Land O’ Lakes With Weed? We may be biased but we think camping at Bon Echo Provincial Park or any of our local camping areas is the best camping around. We thought sharing a few tips before you head out so you don’t get in trouble would be a great idea. First, YES! You can possess cannabis and smoke it in any Ontario Provincial Park, you just have to make sure you are first aware of where you can light up. Smoking or vaping cannabis is permitted in areas where you can smoke tobacco. Areas, where it is not permitted, are typically shared spaces such as: Washrooms Shelter areas with a roof and more than 2 walls Playgrounds and 20m from the perimeter of the playground Sporting areas, such as volleyball and beach volleyball areas, designated swimming areas, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and adjacent spectator areas, as […]
Troubleshooting Your Vape Cartridge & Battery It’s a royal pain in the you know what when you want a draw off your vape and it just won’t work. Let’s talk about some of the most common problems and why your vape might not be working. Before we talk problems, let’s first talk about the most common type of battery used with a vape cartridge – a 510 pen battery. Currently, there are two different types available, one with a button and one without. The batteries available without buttons are draw-activated. This means only when you take a draw and air passes through it will the battery fire. Typically, they have a fixed voltage which means only one heat setting. Vape batteries with a button will only fire when the button is pressed. These button batteries typically have three voltage settings on them that are colour coded. This style of battery […]
Too High? Tips For Sobering Up I’m sure a lot of us have gone a little too hard with cannabis and wound up feeling a bit out of sorts. Maybe you tried concentrates for the first time and got the spins, maybe you are a first-time user and smoked too much or maybe you thought you could handle that 1000mg edible. No matter your experience level it can happen to us all and there are some ways to help sober up or sort yourself out. Thankfully, the effects of smoking can go away in 30 mins to a few hours. Edibles on the other hand can last much longer possibly up to 12 hours. The best way to ensure you’re not going to overdo it is to START LOW & GO SLOW until you find your effective dose. But if we all did that then there would be no need […]
Ryan’s Growing Series Part 1 – Starting Out When you’re ready to germinate your seeds it’s a good first step to look at what your seeds look like. Seeds with a darker colouration typically have a greater success rate while pale white or green seeds will most often be weaker plants or duds. Before we get to germination tips let’s explore some basic guidelines. Temperature is very important. The ideal range for cannabis plants is a temperature between 22°- 25°C (71°- 77°F). The relative humidity should be in the 70% – 90% range (ONLY during the seedling stage) Your growing environment should be damp never wet or dry Use fluorescent lighting for germination to avoid stress and light burn Using these basic guidelines should allow you to pop your seeds in 24-48 hours. Time can vary a bit depending on the age of the seed and the growing environment. Ways […]
Autoflower or Photoperiod? Which one is right for me? What is an Autoflower? Autoflowers are a type of cannabis plant that will flower at a certain maturity and don’t depend on the changes in light cycles. To create an autoflower cultivar breeders cross indica, sativa or hybrid strains with the less know subspecies of cannabis called Ruderalis. Ruderalis is native to colder regions in Asia and areas of Eastern Europe. Autoflowers strains have developed the trait of blooming automatically to account for extreme climate changes where they grow. What is a Photoperiod? The term photoperiod means light cycle or light time. Photoperiod plants rely on darkness intervals to let them know when it’s time to start flowering. Photoperiod plants need at least 18 hours of light per day during vegetative growth and stay in that state until they get 12 hours of dark. Photoperiod plants take an absolute minimum of […]
Preventing Pests From Getting Your Outdoor Grow Growing can be a very rewarding hobby but it’s not without challenges. Pests can be a major factor in whether or not your outdoor grow will be successful. Let’s look at various methods of pest prevention such as companion planting, beneficial insects, netting, and more. Companion Planting is an excellent way to naturally fend off bugs by creating a polyculture. Polyculture – meaning the plants work together to create a better growing environment. A polyculture minimizes a lot of risk by attracting predatory insects and can also act as a pesticide due to the chemicals or aromas certain plants give off. Excellent examples of companion plants include Chamomile, Sunflower, Lavender, Marigold, Lemon Balm, and/or Dill. Beneficial Insects can be deployed onto your garden as a way to try and get rid of non-beneficial insects. Many of these good bugs feed on the bad […]
Know What You Grow! – Seed Edition Growing cannabis can be an easy, rewarding hobby. It can also be somewhat of a challenge so let’s go over a few common mistakes growers make that can affect the yields and overall plant health. “My friend gave me a bag of seeds for free” is something I have heard a few times before and it could be the beginning of the end of your crop. There are many different types of cannabis, some being hard to grow as they are very picky about conditions, some are very simple, hardy, and are relatively easy to grow. Knowing what kind of seeds you have is crucial to maximizing yield. An example of this is Colombian Gold, this strain grows very large and has a longer flowering period. Short summers or a late start will not allow it to go through its full flowering period. […]
What is Hashish? Hash or hashish is the name given to cannabis concentrates where Trichomes (the resin glands that form on the surface of cannabis plants) are separated from fresh and dried/cured flowers. That extracted material is then processed into a smokeable or vapeable format. It is usually brown, black, red or even blond in colour and comes in a brick or ball. To the experienced consumer, hashish has a distinct aroma that can be described as earthy, spicy, and rich. There are two main steps in making hash: *Sieving *Pressing Sieving The art of agitating dried cannabis flowers to separate the trichomes. Techniques include: dry sift hash (kief), ice water (bubble hash) Pressing Once the kief has been obtained it needs to be changed from powder to a solid, consumable mass. It is the pressing of the kief where the traditional roots of […]
